In today’s globalized world and within the framework of our country’s European Union membership process, mastering at least one foreign language—both in written and oral communication—has become a necessity. Additionally, the demand for competent translators in both written and oral contexts is increasing every day. Our mission is to train professionals who can fill this gap by acquiring the necessary skills to perform at a high level in the field of translation.
Furthermore, graduates of our department are equipped to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms in any field requiring foreign language proficiency. After completing a one-year mandatory English preparatory program, they develop their translation skills over two years by learning and applying theories, approaches, and methods essential for various types of translation (written translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, news translation, etc.) across different professional domains, including economics, politics, social sciences, engineering, commerce, and technical fields.
To support translation-based courses, additional activities are conducted to enhance students’ reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. This approach ensures that students become proficient in translating from English to Turkish and vice versa, while also preparing them to work in various sectors that require foreign language expertise.
Graduates who complete their two-year associate degree can work as teachers in primary schools under the Ministry of National Education (MEB) or in private tutoring centers and language courses. Additionally, they have the opportunity to pursue further education through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), allowing them to continue their studies in undergraduate programs such as Translation and Interpreting (English), English Linguistics, English Language and Literature, American Culture and Literature, English Language Teaching, and Linguistics**. By obtaining a bachelor’s degree, they can also work as instructors in institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MEB) and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
