Program Learning Outcomes: Upon successfully completing this program, students will be able to:

  1. Define concepts based on advanced theoretical and/or practical knowledge related to the field of communication.
  2. Identify communication problems using the fundamental concepts of communication science.
  3. Identify advanced theoretical and/or practical knowledge in the field of journalism.
  4. Define the ownership structure of media organizations, the reception of news, and the news production processes.
  5. Discuss issues specific to the field of journalism.
  6. Explain the structure, characteristics, and functions of media organizations.
  7. Relate current events to their historical, sociological, and psychological background.
  8. Resolve communication issues by choosing and applying appropriate communication strategies.
  9. Use the technical equipment required for the field of journalism.
  10. Keep up with current and technological developments specific to the field.
  11. Gain the necessary experience in news gathering and writing.
  12. Use a journalistic language that is in line with professional ethics, free from discriminatory expressions and clichés.
  13. Become a competent media analyst by critically analyzing information from mass communication channels.
  14. Organize printed and internet-based newspapers according to design principles.
  15. Take responsibility, either individually or as part of a team, in carrying out complex activities encountered in practices related to the field that are unpredictable.
  16. Conduct advanced studies in his/her field independently.
  17. Manage activities aimed at the development of individuals working under their responsibility within the framework of a project.
  18. Takes risk and responsibility for the realization of information, ideas, applications or technologies that bring innovation to the field.
  19. Evaluate risks and opportunities related to personal, professional, and/or work-related areas, taking responsibility for transforming their knowledge and skills into high social, cultural, and economic value in terms of ideas, approaches, technology, or products; develop entrepreneurial competence either individually or as a team member.
  20. Evaluate the advanced level of knowledge and skills acquired in the field with a critical approach.
  21. Identify learning needs and plan and manage activities to improve the performance of oneself and individuals under their responsibility in line with learning objectives.
  22. Inform relevant individuals and organizations about issues related to the field by conveying thoughts and solutions to problems both in writing and orally.
  23. Share their thoughts and proposed solutions to problems related to their field, supporting them with quantitative and qualitative data, with both experts and non-experts.
  24. Use information and communication technologies as required by the field on the basis of his/her acquired computer competency at Advanced Level of European Computer Driving License.
  25. Keep up with the developments in his/her field and communicate with colleagues by using a foreign language (English) at least at the level of European Language Portfolio B1 General Level.
  26. Implements projects and events in association with other occupation groups for the benefit of the social environment with consciousness of social responsibility.
  27. Act in accordance with social, scientific, cultural and ethical values at the stages of gathering, interpreting, implementing, and declaring data in his/her field.
  28. Carry out activities regarding his/her field in the direction of the consciousness he/she developed about the universality of social rights, social justice, quality culture, protection of cultural values and environment, occupational security and health.
