Course Descriptions and Learning Outcomes

A1 (Beginner Level)

At the A1 level, students develop the fundamental skills required for basic communication in English. They learn to introduce themselves and talk about their daily routines, families, possessions, past experiences, and future plans by using essential grammatical structures such as the verb to be, the Present Simple, the Past Simple, the Present Continuous, and the be going to future form. Students also expand their basic vocabulary related to everyday life, develop the ability to understand short conversations and simple spoken texts, identify main ideas and specific details in basic reading passages, and write short paragraphs on familiar topics.

A2 (Elementary Level)

At the A2 level, students further develop their ability to communicate effectively in everyday, academic, and practical contexts. They learn to describe experiences, compare people and places, express opinions, give advice, explain simple processes, discuss future plans, and ask others about their plans. Reading activities focus on identifying main ideas, supporting details, and text organization, while writing activities include descriptive, opinion, process, and comparison paragraphs. Students also expand their listening comprehension and vocabulary in topics such as work, travel, health, entertainment, and daily life.

B1 (Intermediate Level)

At the B1 level, students begin to use English more independently. They learn to express and justify their opinions, describe past experiences, discuss future plans, give advice, compare situations, and participate in longer conversations. Reading and listening activities are designed to develop students’ ability to identify main ideas, make inferences, analyze supporting details, and organize information. Writing instruction focuses on paragraph and essay writing, including opinion essays with clear introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions. Grammar instruction covers a wider range of verb tenses, conditionals, the passive voice, reported speech, and relative clauses.

B2 (Upper-Intermediate Level)

At the B2 level, students develop the advanced language and academic skills required for university study and professional communication. They learn to comprehend and critically evaluate authentic written and spoken texts, identify arguments and supporting evidence, draw inferences, and discuss complex issues including social, cultural, environmental, and academic topics with confidence.

Writing instruction focuses on academic essays, including cause-and/or-effect essays and comparison-and-contrast essays, with particular emphasis on critical thinking, argument development, coherence, and the appropriate use of academic style.

Students also develop mastery of advanced grammatical structures, including conditionals, the passive voice, reported speech, relative clauses, modal verbs, and complex sentence structures. In addition, they expand their academic and discipline-specific vocabulary, enabling them to communicate accurately, fluently, and effectively in demanding academic and professional contexts.

The B2 curriculum is offered in two formats: B2 Mainstream (B2 MS), delivered over 8 weeks, and B2 Extended (B2 EXT), delivered over 16 weeks. Both formats aim to achieve the same learning outcomes while accommodating different student needs and progression pathways.

B2 Advanced (Advanced Level)

At the B2 Advanced level, students further enhance their academic English proficiency by analyzing complex written and spoken texts, evaluating arguments and supporting evidence, and discussing contemporary issues critically and confidently. Through presentations, debates, and the production of descriptive and problem–solution essays, students further develop their advanced reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.

Students also expand their academic vocabulary and gain mastery of advanced grammatical structures, including modals of deduction, inversion, cleft sentences, participle clauses, and complex adverbial clauses. As a result, they are able to communicate with greater accuracy, fluency, sophistication, and academic competence.
