The aim of the New Media and Communication Department is to cultivate a qualified workforce to meet the needs arising from changes and developments in the field of communication. With the support of new communication technologies, there has been an increasing demand for competent professionals in the media sector, especially in social media. Our department aims to train well-equipped professionals to work in this new internet-based communication environment.

 

New Media and Communication students will follow a common curriculum with other departments in our faculty during the first year. In the following years, they will be able to choose from a highly diverse pool of elective courses offered by both our faculty and other faculties. Our students will be able to direct themselves towards either technical or theoretical courses depending on their fields of interest.

 

They will be able to become experts in the theory, research and application fields of the discipline of communication. With an interdisciplinary perceptive, they will provide the necessary infrastructure to the production, distribution and reception processes of the communication process. The courses will be held interactively in technically well equipped classrooms and laboratories.

 

It is aimed to have the graduates of this department be cultivated both with a strong theoretical fundamentals and the capacity to master new technologies. The age that we live in is named as the “Information Age”. The demand for media leaders—competent communication specialists who implement, manage, and evaluate communication processes across various fields, from the private sector to government institutions, from the education sector to non-governmental organizations—is increasing day by day.

 

Our graduates are candidates to being critically important media professionals of this age. By effectively utilizing the latest communication technologies, they will be able to work in all areas of the rapidly growing media sector, as well as become skilled candidates for academia in analyzing communication processes. They will begin their careers as communicators who are aware of societal and technological transformations, and who understand and apply the evolving dynamics of the digital world. An active and participatory learning process awaits our students who can expect to be equipped with new knowledge related to the field and have the opportunity to use their creativity.
