DEFINITION OF BIOCHEMISTRY
Biochemistry is a branch of science that questions and studies the formation, functioning, regulation at the molecular level of all chemical reactions necessary for living organisms to survive. Human biochemistry studies the structure, synthesis, destruction of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids, which are the basic components of the cell, as well as the relationship of these biomolecules with each other. The ongoing vital functions of the organism and the functioning and regulation of all metabolic reactions necessary for life are the field of research of biochemistry.
In Faculty of Medicines and in the health sector, Biochemistry can be studied under two headings as Basic Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry. Along with the clinical approach to the diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of diseases in medicine, the evaluation of laboratory results is also of great importance. In clinical biochemistry laboratories, various body materials are examined, evaluated and quantified using different methods. In this sense, biochemistry is one of the multidisciplinary basic medical sciences that has an important place in medicine.
MISSION AND VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY
Our Mission is to contribute to training physicians and healthcare workers who can meet the needs of our country, can undertake the responsibility, are well-trained, have problem solving skills and ability to follow for the purposes of researching, analyzing, interpreting clinical biochemical processes for a clinical purpose, can adapt to the fast-paced technological future.
Our Vision is to improve our academic performance with the scientific research carried out and to be carried out in our department, and to be able to represent our faculty in the best way in the national and international arena.
COURSES OFFERED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY
Our department will carry out theoretically and practically the courses, Semester 1 (Basic Biochemistry and Tissue Biochemistry), Semester 2 (Metabolism of Biomolecules) and Semester 3 (Clinical Biochemistry) stated in integrated education program. In addition, theoretical courses of the Departments of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, and Nutrition and Dietetics, which provide education within the Faculty of Health Sciences, will also be taught by our Department.
HISTORY
Our department was established under the structure of Basic Medical Sciences in 2020, when our faculty started its education and training. Prof. Dr. Yıldız İyidoğan is serving as Head of the Department.
