A double major is a program that offers students the opportunity to complete one major during their associate degree education, as well as a second major within a specific curriculum. This program offers students the opportunity to add more flexibility and diversity to their careers.

 

Students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in a specific field while specializing in a specific field, as well as in another field in which they are interested or can contribute to their career goals. October October double major programs usually require additional course intake and additional academic effort throughout the associate degree education, but graduates may have a wider range of job opportunities.

Double major and minor branch applications are guaranteed by regulations and guidelines. The principles related to double Major student admission are regulated in the “Istanbul Arel University Double Major and Minor Education and Training Programs Directive. If the student meets the necessary requirements, he/she is registered to the department where he/she wants to do a Degree or a minor.

 

Double Major Application and Admission Conditions

 

ARTICLE 6 – (1) A student may apply to the second major diploma program at the earliest at the beginning of the third semester in the major undergraduate diploma program, at the latest at the beginning of the fifth semester in four-year programs, at the latest at the beginning of the ninth semester in six-year programs, at the earliest at the beginning of the second semester in the associate degree diploma program, at the latest at the beginning of the third semester.

 

(2) Applications to the double major program are made by filling out the Double Major Application Form from the student affairs information system (Proliz).

 

(3) In order for a student to apply for a double major program; (a) He must be an undergraduate or associate degree student of the University according to the level of the program he is applying for, (b) He must successfully complete all the credit courses he took in the undergraduate major diploma program by the time he applied, (c) The GPA of the major diploma program must be at least 2.75 at the time of application and must be in the top 20% of the success rating in the relevant class of the major diploma program.

 

(4) Students who meet the GPA requirement at the time of application, but are not in the top 20% of the achievement ranking in their respective class, can apply to the double major program if they have the same score as the base score of the program to be double-majored in the relevant year.

 

(5) Students who have received any disciplinary punishment cannot apply to the double major program.

 

(6) Students who have lost the title of double major student for any reason cannot apply to study double major again or continue double major education.

 

(7) Applications are evaluated by the head of the department where the relevant second major program is conducted. The evaluation results are discussed by the relevant board of directors and the list of students admitted to the double major program is announced.

 

(8) Students who change departments through horizontal transfer cannot apply for a double major in the same academic period.

 

(9) A student in a double major program can make a horizontal transfer to the second major diploma program when he/she meets the conditions in accordance with the internal transition provisions.

 

(10) There is no horizontal transition between double major programs. Dec.

 

(11) If the second major program to which the student applies teaches in a language other than the major program, the relevant student must meet the Language Proficiency Requirement. Turkish Proficiency must be provided for in Article 7 of the Istanbul Arel University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations and the conditions specified in the Istanbul Arel University School of Foreign Languages Turkish Preparatory School Education and Training Examination Directive.

 

(12) Students who have not passed the language proficiency exam of the second major diploma programs, for which the preparatory class is mandatory, will not be accepted to the relevant programs.

 

(13) Registration to more than one second major diploma program cannot be made at the same time. However, it is possible to enroll in another minor program with the second major diploma program at the same time.

 

(14) Admission of students to a double major program that accepts students with an aptitude test is required to be successful in the aptitude test as well.

 

(15) A student who wants to do a double major in programs that require a ranking of achievement must have met the ranking of achievement requirement determined by the Higher Education Council of the relevant program in the year he/she enrolled, as well as other requirements set out in this Regulation.

 

(16) Students who have registered for a bachelor’s program with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) cannot apply for double major programs.
