INDUSTRY 4.0 LABORATORY

Robotics, as a crucial component of automation, is paving the way for new technologies and opportunities in production. With articulated robots, workpieces and assemblies are moved and palletized in many industrial applications. In our Industry 4.0 laboratory, featuring the universal Industry 4.0 learning factory known as the CP Factory, our students have the opportunity to observe the principles of a smart factory kit used for teaching and research. This kit maps out the new developments in networked production from Industry 4.0.

Industrial processes follow programs designed for maximum efficiency. In a real industrial environment, there is no room for errors or learning. Learning factories away from production facilities offer students the chance to tackle challenges in factory automation within a protected and intuitive setting. In the Industry 4.0 laboratory environment, our students acquire the skills they will precisely need in their future workplaces.

In this context, with a “process control production line system” designed according to industrial processes, students can apply, monitor, analyze, and debug different production scenarios. They also get the chance to use and program elements such as industrial automation and Programmable Logic Controller (S7-1200) systems for process control, and multi-axis pneumatic robots (KUKA) for product dispatching and programming. The capability to program and analyze various scenarios through the HMI operator panel further demonstrates the integrated impact of the Industry 4.0 Laboratory in the “Process Control” area.

HUMAN FACTORS AND MEASUREMENT LABORATORY

The Human Factors and Measurement Laboratory was established to support the content of courses such as Human Factors and Ergonomics, Job Analysis and Design, Statistics for Engineers, Statistical Quality Control, System Analysis and Simulation, and Risk Analysis, as well as to conduct various undergraduate and graduate research projects in this context.

This laboratory, which ensures the necessary education in human factors, allows for the creation of workstations, and the conduction of time and ergonomic measurements. With equipment such as the Hand Dexterity Test Device, Pegboard, Grooved Pegboard, Finger Dexterity Test Device, and Hand Skill Test Tools, time studies can be conducted, and various lab activities can be carried out to reinforce the knowledge students learn in their courses. Additionally, the laboratory is equipped with instruments to measure and test environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, air flow, light intensity, noise level, time, weight, force, indoor air quality (CO, CO2), and material vibration.

The experiences gained during measurements and evaluations with this equipment shed light on job design, work environment design, and ergonomic workplace arrangements. Through this laboratory, students learn to perform the necessary measurements for time studies and to use various environmental condition tools as part of their education.
